Practicing Mrs Laderman's Make-up On Myself

It is key to remember that my actual model will be aged 45, so fits Mrs Laderman's character profile perfectly; I am only practicing the special effects techniques on myself, so it will look very different for my final character.

Products/Equipment needed:

  • Hairdryer
  • Toilet paper
  • A comb
  • Conditioner
  • A palette knife
  • A small pot/container
  • Foundation palette
  • Supracolor palette
  • Sponges
  • Stipple sponge
  • Translucent powder
  • A puff
  • Foundation brush
  • Eye shadow brush x3
  • Liquid latex
  • Fake blood
  • Wound filler
  • Fake dirt
  • Cinewax
  • Bruise wheel
  • A barrier/shield for the skin
  • Tooth enamel
First of all I applied Kryolan pro shield, so to shield the face from any harsh products
Products needed for the forehead
First of all, I used the stretch & stipple technique, whereby I stretched my forehead, applied liquid latex and then dried it using a hairdryer (on a COOL setting).

I repeated this process 2/3 times

I then mixed some oats in with the liquid latex and applied this to one side of my forehead

I applied small random pieces of Cine-wax to one side of my face and picked at them with a stipple sponge.

I then covered my nose in liquid latex, stuck pieces of tissue over the top, and repeated this process a few times to create more texture and zombie-like skin
I covered my whole face in a layer of liquid latex to tie everything together
I applied a layer of foundation, and started adding black/grey tones (from the suprcolor palette) to hollow out the face, following the structure of a skull
I began adding other colours to make it more zombie and ill-looking, e.g. greens, yellows, purples
I then created 3 wounds (see previous post) on the forehead and each side of the face

I then covered the lips in blood, as though the walker had just eaten someone, and tried to get blood to drip down the chin
Finally, I added black tooth enamel to show that the teeth are beginning to rot and clearly aren't taken care of

 Final look:
I felt that the make-up had been slightly overdone - there was too much going on, e.g. the wound on one side of the face needs to be much smaller, the head wound needs to be toned down slightly, and I'm not entirely sure if I will include the tooth enamel because it would be hard to have the model showing their teeth and be positioned in a natural, zombie-like pose. However, as a first attempt I think it was quite successful and allowed me to get to grips with the special effects products I am using, and I think if I make the changes (stated above) it will be quite successful.
